The METI Japan Internship Program, initiated by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), offers a unique opportunity for skilled professionals from developing countries to gain practical experience within Japanese companies. This initiative aims to foster mutual growth by enhancing the global competitiveness of Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and providing international talent with firsthand exposure to Japan's business environment.
Designed to bridge cultural and professional gaps, the program facilitates internships that allow participants to understand Japanese corporate practices and contribute their expertise. In turn, Japanese companies benefit from diverse perspectives, aiding their efforts in global expansion and innovation.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
Hold citizenship from a country listed on the OECD/DAC list, excluding the People's Republic of China.
Be between 18 and 40 years old as of August 25, 2025.
Possess proficiency in English (business level) or Japanese (JLPT N3 or higher).
Be either current students or graduates of higher education institutions.
Be able to provide necessary documentation, including certificates of enrollment or graduation and letters of recommendation.
Have not previously participated in this program between FY2016 and FY2024.
Deadline: June 30, 2025 (Monday).
Number of Positions: Approximately 100 interns will be selected, with about one intern per company.
Internship Placement: Interns will be placed in SMEs across Japan.

Participants can choose between two formats:
1. In-Person Internship in Japan:
Interns will travel to Japan and work onsite at their host companies.
This format offers immersive cultural and professional experiences.
2. Online Internship:
Interns will work remotely from their home countries.
This format provides flexibility and eliminates the need for travel.

Daily allowance of 3,000 yen.
Round-trip airfare (economy class).

Daily allowance equivalent to 1,000 yen in local currency.

📋 Application Process
1. Registration: Create an account on the official program website.
2. Application Submission: Complete the application form and upload required documents.
3. Selection & Matching: The program office will review applications and match candidates with suitable host companies.
4. Notification: Applicants will be informed of the results.
5. Agreement: Successful candidates will enter into an agreement outlining the internship terms.
